Director's Message Dear Parents/Guardians, I hope this letter finds you in the best of health and strength. To serve as your child’s principal is an honor and a pleasure. The first day of school is quickly approaching. Classes begin virtually on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. All students will receive virtual instruction beginning September 8, 2020, through October 2, 2020. During this timeframe, district leaders will monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and make an informed decision regarding continuing virtual instruction or shifting to a hybrid model. Rest assured that all decisions will be made with the health and safety of students, staff members and stakeholders as our primary commitment. Nurse Allen and I, along with other district officials, have developed COVID-19 protocols for students and staff members in the event that we are able to return to campus. We are committed to providing students with a high-quality educational experience, along with an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. On August 10, 2020, a survey was sent to parents inquiring about the most effective learning pathway for your child (remote, face-to-face, or hybrid). Additionally, the survey referenced the necessary technological devices needed for our scholars to be successful this year. If you have not received the survey, or have not had an opportunity to complete the survey, please email me and I will resend the survey to you. The referenced information is imperative as we prepare to deploy devices to all students who require them. A virtual Meet The Teacher has been scheduled for the Southwest campus on Friday, September 4, 2020. The times of the event will vary by grade-level. A flyer (with the appropriate links and times) will be emailed to all parents on August 31, 2020. The information is also posted on the campus calendar website at southwest.varnett.org. Please use this opportunity as a means to meet your child’s teacher and receive important information regarding Varnett’s Learning Management System.
